One of the main causes of the Chernobyl nuclear incident, was the errors of the power plant operators. The operators tried to conduct an experiment of the RMBK reactor in an unstable state, which was a violation of the operating rules. Another rule that was violated, was " to never have fewer than 30 control rods inserted into the reactor". Due to the operators' inadequate training, they put Europe in danger.
The second cause of the accident, was the actual design of the RMBK reactor. The control rods used where made with a graphite tip, which increased the reactivity of the neutrons. Due to the very hot graphite contact with the air, the reactor burst into flames. Which released radioactive particles into the air.
